My name is Kevin Brownfield, I am a man of faith, grit, and hands-one creativity. I have a deep connection to my faith, Eastern Orthodoxy, a love for restoring an old 1977 El Camino, a commitment to teaching firearm responsibility, and I have a growing passion for woodworking! Each of these parts of my life reflect my journey of building, whether it is my soul, a car, a safer community, or a simple bench for my garden.
Faith as My Foundation
Eastern Orthodoxy is the heartbeat of my life. The lives of the saints, especially Saint Christopher, guide me with their stories of transformation and God’s boundless love. St. Christopher’s journey to encountering Christ reminds me of my father, a man whose own path taught me resilience and strength. Whether it’s through prayer, the wisdom of parables like the onion in The Brothers Karamazov, or the quiet beauty of an icon, my faith keeps me grounded and inspired.
Rebuilding a Classic
I’m elbow-deep in restoring a 1977 El Camino, a project that’s as much about heart as it is about horsepower. From wrestling with tricky wiring to welding in a new floor pan, it’s a slow but rewarding process. My vision is a Byzantine inspired lowrider masterpiece. Think vibrant colors, gold leaf, and maybe even a Saint or two watching over the dash. This car isn’t just metal; it’s a canvas for my creativity.
Teaching Responsibility with Firearms
Having an NRA certified basic pistol instructor credential, I’m passionate about empowering people with knowledge and confidence. Too many don’t understand when or how to defend themselves, and I’m here to change that. Through real-world and hypothetical scenarios, like navigating a tense moment in a parking lot or at home, I teach the balance of restraint, awareness, and decisive action. My goal is to help students walk away not just skilled but responsible and clear-headed in tough situations.
I’ve also got a personal campaign to bring tourniquets to schools, and to better prepare educators for trauma first aid.
Crafting with Wood
Woodworking is my newest adventure, a chance to create something tangible with my hands. I recently built a sturdy bench from eight 2x4s, and now I’m dreaming up an L-shaped bench for my patio-simple, durable, and built to last. There’s something meditative about shaping wood, and I’m excited to keep honing this craft, maybe adding a few carved details down the road.
Outro
At my core, I’m someone who believes in building, whether it’s faith, a car, a skill, or a piece of furniture. If I had to sum it up, I’d point to Saint Christopher carrying the weight of the world across a river: life’s about shouldering the load, finding purpose in the journey, and trusting in something greater. That’s me-working, learning, and creating one step at at time.
